Children in Tunbridge Wells who have embraced the health and environmental benefits of walking to school have been rewarded for their efforts.
More than 180 primary schools in Kent and Medway take part in Wow and Walking Bug schemes and on Challenge Day classes with the highest number of walkers are named winners and receive trophies and prize packages.
Pupils from St James’ Infant School were the Tunbridge Wells champions.
Children from the winning Beech Class were presented with their award along with free child tickets for Leeds Castle and The Powell Cotton Museum and Gardens in Birchington.
Six-year-old Sophie Lee, said: “I walk to school because it is healthy for you. I walk to school every day with mummy and sometimes granny and grandpa”.
Edward Haycock, also 6, added: “Walking to school gives you lots of energy and gets you fit. When you walk your bones become stronger.”
School admininstrator Ruth Eagles said: “Walking to school on a Wednesday is having a very positive effect on the children in all areas and they love the Walking Bug.”
