Medway Big Quiz raises record amount

A record haul of cash was raised at Medway’s Big Quiz on Friday night.

Thanks to the support a small army of sponsors headed by Barclays bank and Scottish and Newcastle, event organizers estimate £6,000 will be presented to charity, the largest amount ever raised at the Medway event.

Mick’s Bag earned the Peel Ports KM Big Quiz Trophy after beating The Quizzicals by one point in the final round. Both teams received P&O Ferries vouchers and wine donated by Asda at Chatham.

The captains of bottom placed Vertex Law and Twydall Twitts found themselves invited on stage for a sudden death tiebreak question after both teams scored 27. Vertex Law won the tiebreak earning all eight team members the prize of an illustrated historic walks of Kent.

The top team on the night chalked up 80 per cent of correct answers, but all but four teams achieved 50 per cent correct making this one of the brightest crowds ever to attend the Medway Big Quiz.

Beverages in the No Nonsense Charity Bar were donated by brewers Scottish and Newcastle and staff from Barclays bank served the drinks and then doubled the cash raised on the night.

Staff from Adecco recruitment acted as runners on the night, RTH Light and Sound provided the PA and Gillingham Lions ran the raffle.

Money raised on the night will be going to the Oliver Fisher Baby Unit at Medway Maritime Hospital, the KM Charity Team’s walk to school services, Mayor of Medway’s Charity Fund and community group Hope ’09.

The top five teams on the night are now being invited to take part in the county final on Sunday, December 6. They will compete against the winners and runners-up from KM Big Quiz events held in Canterbury, Ashford and Maidstone earlier this year. For information on the event view www.kmbigquiz.co.uk
